OUR STORY

Steven Katkin, PhD, started in private practice as a sole practitioner in the 1970’s. He moved his practice to our current location in 1980. His work was specialized in treating anxiety disorders. He worked with people individually and in group settings. He later expanded his practice to add more clinicians to treat the growing need for mental health services in the Eastern Suburbs of Cincinnati.

When Steven’s son David Katkin was in high school and into college, he had a job at the practice answering phones, making copies, and going out to get coffee for the staff.

In 1995, David Katkin, LPCC, was the newest addition to the practice, and at the time, the youngest member of the clinical staff at our office. And he was the one who was designated to treat and test for ADHD. New to the field and somewhat new to the diagnosis, there was a BIG learning curve. David went to every seminar he could and eagerly raised his hand to ask the experts about the best ways to test for ADHD. To this day, he hasn’t received a uniform answer. After two decades of diagnosing ADHD, he’s developed a good method to capture symptoms in an objective and subjective format. Throughout the years of treating other mental health issues, such as anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, and anxiety, David has come to learn where these issues could be more of the causal factor or a subsequent factor.
He’s endlessly enthralled by individuals with ADHD. Their stories, their work ethic, and their drive to continue to better themselves despite the attention issues that have been holding them back.

David is naturally curious about how people go about their lives, and manage their lives in both career and personal aspects, which helps make him a good interviewer. He looks at the process of the ADHD evaluation as an excellent chance to help understand what makes each person tick, and where their weaknesses and strengths are. He sees this evaluation as full scale in that just about every aspect of your life will be discussed. This helps him provide individual recommendations. David and all clinicians at this office want to be value added and not just box checkers.

This practice continues to thrive, and through the magic of technology, we’re able to see clientele everywhere and all the time. Our staff is eager to accommodate our clientele in every way we possibly and ethically can. We strive to continue the tradition Steven Katkin set more than decades ago.
